$50,000 Matching Gift Announced to Support Local Hospital

For almost 60 years, donations to ValleyCare Charitable Foundation have enabled our local Hospital, Stanford Health Care – ValleyCare, to serve our community and address its healthcare needs both in routine times and in times of crisis.

Today, we’re excited to announce that the Stupski Foundation has committed to match donations to ValleyCare Charitable Foundation (VCCF) up to $50,000 to support the Tri-Valley community’s health. Donations will support our response to the COVID-19 crisis as well as the recovery efforts. Donors will help by contributing to a variety of critical clinical and social care services for patients and staff. Gifts will help support care capacity, create a safer environment, support providers and staff, and much more as we navigate the next phase of the pandemic.

“We are honored by the Stupski Foundation’s support,” said Shaké Sulikyan, Executive Director of ValleyCare Charitable Foundation. “The negative financial implications of this pandemic on nonprofit hospitals will be felt long after the emergency orders have been lifted. Thanks to this matching gift, we can continue funding programs and services that foster health, build community, and save lives.”

The Stupski Foundation is a spend-down foundation founded by Larry and Joyce Stupski that primarily funds organizations in the Bay Area and Hawai’i that address food security, postsecondary success, early brain development, and serious-illness care. Because of Joyce’s experience caring for her husband, Larry, at the end of his life, part of the Foundation’s grantmaking efforts focus on improving how seriously ill patients and their loved ones experience the end of life.

“We've been inspired by the pandemic response across the Bay Area, in particular from healthcare providers like Stanford Health Care – ValleyCare that are implementing a variety of services to keep patients and staff safe,” said Dan Tuttle, Stupski Foundation’s Director of Health. “We hope that others who are able to donate will contribute to ValleyCare Charitable Foundation, so that our communities facing the greatest challenges from COVID-19 can receive the safe, high-quality care they need locally now, and into the future.”
